A Schulte table turns visual search into a number. Because the digits are scattered at random, there is no shortcut: each one has to be found by moving your attention across the grid, and the clock records how long that took.
The useful metric is average time per cell, not total time. A 7×7 grid has more than five times the cells of a 3×3 one, so totals are incomparable across sizes — which is why this site groups records by grid size and reports the per-cell average alongside them.
The per-number curve in each record is often more informative than the average. A flat line means a steady sweep; a few tall spikes usually mean a number sat outside where you were looking, or that attention briefly dropped. This describes performance under this site's rules and is not a standardized or clinically validated measure.
